You should be happy to see nightmares and here is why

Lack of sleep is dangerous for your health, but not only that. Doctors think that dreaming we get rid of the negative emotions and live down the situations we cannot handle in the waking life. However, recent studies also showed that dreams do even more.

Why do we get nightmares? They prepare us for crisis and boost our survival skills in real life. In those dreams you fell scared to death, featherbrained and lost. But they prepare you for the real-life situations. Once you clear all those negative emotions, you obtain the ability to stay focused and calm when the real thing happens.

For instance after the 9/11 people started having more bad dreams about the attacks. They did not exactly dream about the towers or airplanes. But they “learned” to survive under attack in their nightmares.

There was even a story of the man, who painted and repaired a bridge. He dreaded falling down from it into the water. It was 30 meters high. One day the fear has become a reality. The man fell down, but did not get killed. His mother said he just saw a dream last night and there he was able to tuck in his head to protect it. That’s exactly what he did, when he bumped into the water in the real life!

And there are the lucid dreams, when you can control things and teach your brain any skill or ability you want. So, dreams might be the way our body and brain operate to get more “education” for survival!
